Round coffee tables are good especially in tight space. It improves the traffic in the room, softens the straight lines/edges of sofa and other furniture, makes the whole space look aesthetically more pleasing.
In my apartment I’ve a round coffee table partly due to a smaller space and also since our dining table is also round (for same reason, small space), I wanted the same shape to repeat.
Now coming to the part of styling a round coffee table, it has some different tips from it’s square or rectangular counterpart.
5 tips for all types coffee table styling
- Start with a blank canvas
- Keeping the functionality in mind and who is going to use the room
- Keeping enough negative space
- Going with the overall style of the space
- My favorite things to style with are trays, books, candles, coasters, plant / flower, decorative / sculptural items.
Here are my 2 coffee table looks
Look 1 (Textured play)
By now I guess everybody knows about the odd number rule – 3,5,7 and 3 is what I call a magic number. Our eyes love to see grouping of three. So here I’ve kept a tray with some items (look how I’ve kept these too in grouping of 3), books with a vase and a garland and last but not the least a vintage silver pot with Palo Santo. In the same coordination things can be changed, e.g. flowers in the place of greenery or the bowl of faux pumpkins can be replaced with some other sculptural item of more or less same visual weight.
Look 2 (Vintage minimal look)
Instead of keeping in groups of three, you can keep a round tray (here I’ve used a charger plate, never hesitate to use unexpected items, most of the time it works) with two candle holders and a vintage onion soup bowl. The whole setting gives a vintag-ey feel to the space. Just close to the tray / plate I’ve kept coffee table books with a potted greenery on top.
