I love IKEA…I mean who doesn’t !!
There’s one thing though that I like more than IKEA is, well of course, the IKEA hacks. Those endless possibilities that can be achieved with their pieces…furniture, light fixtures, décor pieces is just incredible.
Here I’ve listed 6 of my favorite ones, some of those are really easy, others that might take a little bit of your time and effort. So let’s get started….
1. IKEA RAST sideboard
This one has to be on the list first. I wanted a drawer sideboard for the dining area when this idea came to my mind, joining 2 RASTs and making one single piece. I’ve a separate blog where all the detailed steps are there.
One thing though when I first made it I kept the top stained wood and just recently changed it to a painted one because now it suits my space more perfectly.
2. IKEA RAST nightstand
This was a simple yet beautiful DIY nightstand, when you don’t want to do much but still want that designer look, give it a stain of your choice, change the hardware and that’s it. The stain that I used here was Early American from Varathane and dark wax from Behr on top it. And of course when I’m staining any wooden piece a conditioner is a must. It’s from Varathane.
3. NORRAKER STOOL
I wanted a vintage stool but for some reason couldn’t find any in antique of thrift stores. So came up with the idea of upcycling this NORRAKER stool into one. I kept the bottom ( leg ) part and in place of the top I added 2×4×8 pressure treated lumber from Homedepot cut it into 3 pieces of 15 inches each and joined together with pocket hole screws.
Applied 2 coats of dark wax from Behr. Sanded the legs well and wire brushed to give an aged look, stained in dark walnut from Varathane and voilà.
4. KALLAX tea/ coffee station
I wanted someplace where I could make a tea station. KALLAX was the perfect fit here with all the storage, it was really what I call form with function. To see in more detail there’s my another blog. I added a peel and stick wallpaper to the doors and changed the hardware here. It’s a small update but still looks big.
5. KARMSUND Mirror
Since the mirror had a very thin frame I added some simple moldings from Homedepot but first spray painted it black. Then I glued on some wooden appliqués from amazon (similar). Applied Gilding wax from Pebeo in King Gold. Can it get simpler than this !!
6. INGOLF chair
Now here I kept the simplest for the last. Basically painting it in black and a top coat and changing the fabric of the seat cushions. I chose this beautiful Toile fabric from Wayfair and this gives an added charm and interest to the space without being too loud. I love that little bit of old country feel.
